An active 2021 Atlantic Hurricane season expected - SERVPRO is READY to Help after any size disaster!

5/11/2021 (Permalink)

After the record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season last year, it appears likely that 2021 is in for the sixth consecutive above-average year. First predictions have been released, and the message is straightforward: Yet another very active hurricane season is expected in 2021. With a quite concerning notice that also an above-average probability of hurricane landfalls along the US coastline and in the Caribbean is likely.

The official Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. The Atlantic basin covers the area which includes the entire Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. The long-term average (taken over the last 70 years – between 1951 and 2019) of named storms is 11. The short-term average (taken over the last 15 years – between 1995 and 2019) is 14 named storms.

When a hurricane makes landfall, the force of hurricane strength winds can destroy buildings, topple trees, bring down power lines, and blow vehicles off roads. When flying debris, such as signs, roofing material, building siding, and small items left outside, is added to the mix, the potential for building damage is even greater. When a storm hits your Middlesex County home or business, you need help immediately, SERVPRO of Old Bridge/Cranbury is here to help with property restoration and repairs. Our team of storm and water damage specialists get started promptly to maximize recovery and reverse storm damage.

Hurricane winds and rain can bring a massive amount of damage to a community. Hurricane winds impact homes and other buildings in two different ways: 1) differential pressures act on the building envelope, which includes roofs and walls (and their associated components), and 2) wind-borne debris may strike a building, with windows and doors the most susceptible to impact. Additionally, downed trees and power lines, being blown-down onto a building, is another way hurricanes can cause damage to structures. Rainwater damage to a building’s interior will normally result after damage to the building envelope has occurred.
